The park was named for the yellow rocks seen in the rock cliffs along the northern portion of the Yellowstone River. This includes the grey wolf, which had been extirpated from the region by the early 1900s but migrated into the Grand Teton National Park from adjacent Yellowstone National Park after the species had been reintroduced there. In the back country outside of Yellowstone, especially north of the Park are some warm springs that are good for soaking tired feet.
